SPICED GITHERI

When they say that the best things in life are free it is true but they are also simple. As I grew up I came to learn that despite Githeri being mums favourite meal it was both part of our inheritance and culture.

When making the Githeri, she always ensured that it was loaded with lots of vegetables ranging from carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, tomatoes etc.  I don’t think that I ever tired of the meal until I boarded in high school. FRENCH TOAST & CARAMELIZED BANANAS

If you work a 9-5 in Nairobi you are probably forced to leave your house at least an hour before earlier in order to make it to work on time, which at times is close to two which is ridiculous. On the other had in order to avoid the crazy jams I prefer leaving the house pretty early and as a result \i end up having breakfast at work. That’s why over the weekends I spoil myself with breakfast prepared by myself.

On this particular Saturday I was missing my mum and her cooking. Since I could not travel all the way home for mummy’s cooking I decided to prepare one of the dishes which she taught me how to prepare way back in primary school, the classic but sumptuous french toast. Read more

Reflections

 

In life, different experiences affect/influence our subsequent decisions. As a result it is human nature to evaluate what we have achieved in comparison to our expectations.

For a long time I kept on thinking of a platform where I could share my love of food and the experiences that come with it.  Hence the blog, adashofpepper.com, and I have to say that although it is barely a year it has been a very interesting, fulfilling journey through which I have learnt new recipes, new cooking techniques, photography, blogging etc. Read more
